How to clean bed bug stains and treat the sheets

Hot water sets blood and fecal stains into the fabric permanently. You must treat the stains with cold water before applying heat to kill the bugs. The first cleaning step is especially important for blood stains, which can become harder to remove when exposed to heat.

  1. Bag the bedding. Strip the bed slowly to avoid flicking bugs onto the floor. Place the sheets directly into a sealed plastic trash bag before carrying them through the house to the laundry room.
